FRESH FLOWER CARE
Fresh flowers are perishable, but a few simple steps can help your arrangement stay beautiful for as long as possible. The care tips below reflect how we recommend caring for fresh flowers at home and apply to most floral arrangements.
WATER & HYDRATION
Keeping flowers well hydrated is the most important part of flower care. For vase arrangements, keep the vase completely full of clean water and check daily, as flowers can drink a surprising amount. For arrangements designed in floral foam, slowly add water directly into the foam each day to keep it fully saturated.
FLOWER FOOD
If flower food is included, use it as directed when adding fresh water. Flower food helps nourish blooms and reduce bacteria in the water, but changing the water daily and keeping the vase clean is just as effective.
PLACEMENT
Place flowers in a cool area away from direct sunlight, heat sources, drafts, appliances, and ripening fruit. Stable temperatures help flowers last longer and maintain their appearance.
COLD WEATHER TRANSPORT
Fresh flowers are sensitive to cold temperatures. When outdoor temperatures fall below 34°F, flowers should be transported in a pre-warmed vehicle and kept covered when moving between buildings. Even brief exposure to freezing or near-freezing air can cause damage that may not appear immediately but can shorten the life of the flowers. If transporting flowers after delivery, especially in the evening, bring them indoors as quickly as possible and avoid leaving them in a cold car.
REMOVING SPENT BLOOMS
As individual flowers naturally fade, gently remove them from the arrangement. This helps the remaining flowers last longer and keeps the design looking its best.
EXPECTED LIFESPAN
Different flowers have different natural lifespans, and some blooms will fade sooner than others. Changes over time are normal and part of the natural life cycle of fresh flowers.
PET SAFETY
Many fresh flowers and plants can be harmful to cats and dogs if ingested. While some varieties are considered highly toxic, others may simply cause vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach upset if chewed. If you have pets who may investigate or nibble on plants, we strongly recommend researching any varieties you receive and keeping all flowers and greenery safely out of reach.
We are always happy to accommodate non-toxic requests when noted at the time of ordering. Because every home and pet is different, it is the responsibility of the pet owner to ensure arrangements are placed safely within their home. If you have concerns about a specific flower, please consult your veterinarian.
If you have questions about your arrangement or notice something that concerns you, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re always happy to help.
